Alright, so after OS X it was Windows 7′s turn to sit on my desktop. I installed it after a lot of fiddling around though. I was not ready to install Windows 7 with a DVD so after searching a bit found out the solution to install Windows 7 from a USB Drive. I had some problems in the start but then AskVG’s trick worked. Anyways, Now I am writing this from my new Windows 7, but wondering what to install in this windows. Coming from Windows Vista’s background, I really don’t have any idea what to install. All I can think of is my list of programs that were installed in Windows Vista.
Now a big task ahead. I go on to Internet searching for some list of programs compatible with Windows 7. Basically I was searching for freeware programs to be installed. I already had my own list from Windows Vista but I was really not sure whether they all will be compatible with Windows 7 or not. So I go digging. Looking into forums, blogs and other users comments. Now have compiled the list of 20 programs that you must consider installing after Windows 7 installation. Don’t look for any other place just believe me it will definitely ease up your life. I am using Windows 7 x64 so most of the application listed below would be x64 bit compatible as well. Check out for their x64 version as well.

Firefox is open source, not freeware. There is a big difference and FOSS advocates do not like their apps to be called freeware, particularly as they use a licence which specifies the freedoms you gain over using freeware.
Nice list though
Actually, because I'm nice, here's a short list of various FOSS apps available for Windows: http://www.gimp.org/windows/ – The Gimp
openoffice.org – OpenOffice.org
keepass.info – Keepass
windows.kde.org/ – KDE http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ – VLC Media Player
There are many others, but this list is a batch of essentials. They are free to download, free to modify and free to redistribute as per the licence.
I don't care if its open source or free. All we wanna know is if its free to us or not. Thanks for the information though.
firefox 64 is not supported by everyone, you need java 64, but is also not supported by everyone and you need another flash, because the 32 bit won't work, in other words, use firefox 32 bit, because it supports all
is windows 7 better than vista ? Worth buy ?
Ray, has a valid point… this list is wrong!
Does it make it right because you feel the software is 'freeware' no…its because not..that is the point.
Change the name of the list to FREE Software.. or something.
Its like doing a list of 20 must have TVs but including PC screens in it, because they play TV content also.
People come to site expecting freeware list.. not some random list of what you feel like.
lol, at you guys insulting Ray…is that all you can do childish insults?
Just a correction it is CCleaner not CCCleaner
Btw thanks for sharing this free to use softwares…
Thanks for the correction. Its updated.
and its FOXIT reader, not FIXIT reader.
Thanks, Corrected.
Thanks….Nice job…………………:)
Daemon Tools isn’t free – costs 12 euro and more.
