When Apple unveiled the new iPhone 4S, one of the new features they took the time to exhibit was the newly improved camera. And temporal noise reduction helps you take great videos in low light. So night’s not too dark and candles look like candles. And you’ll see faces, places, and significant details.

The iPhone 4S camera has been completely redesigned on the inside, so everything you shoot outside looks better than you remember.

Sporting 8 mega pixels worth of, well, pixels, the new shooter is also capable of capturing 1080p video, an improvement over the already remarkable 720p, 5 mega pixel camera in the iPhone 4. The advanced backside illumination sensor and larger aperture let in even more light. Improved auto white balance makes color even more accurate.

These days, we’re all carrying around smartphones that pack cameras that rival those of the point and shoot cameras we take on our holidays, as well as being able to record full HD 1080p video. Not just that either. If you’re an iPhone user, you can even use iMovie for iOS, making it possible to edit full movies right on your iPhone.

Blurry faces and fuzzy action aren’t part of the plan, but unsteady hands happen. iPhone automatically steadies shaky shots with video stabilization. And if you’re recording a scene with subjects in both the foreground and the background, the camera focuses where you want. Just tap that part of the image on the screen, and it adjusts exposure to match the lighting. When you want to focus on another part of the scene, tap again.

Pictures : Its been proven already that iPhone is the best phone in the market as of now that captures amazing pictures. DLSR like pictures. Its been one of the aims of Apple, that they want people to capture awesome images with their iPhone rather than carrying around a P&S camera. Its easier to carry around and takes good pictures, so people like to click more and more pictures. On Flickr iPhone 4 surpasses any other camera in terms of popularity. iPhone 4 is the most used camera to capture and upload pictures on Flickr.

Sample Images posted by Apple on their website

Link to all other images hosted on Apple Website

More pictures from Flickr

Source

Source

Source

Source

Unfortunately, the camera does not contain any other significant manual controls. It would be helpful have some options to adjust exposure manually, instead of having to poke around the screen to select an area that produces good exposure (but might not be where you want to focus). I would also like to see a slightly wider lens, especially for scenic and interior shots. The current lens is the equivalent of about 30mm on a 35mm DSLR.

Overall, the iPhone 4S produces images as good in quality as many low to midrange point-and-shoot cameras, in a simple, user-friendly, and fully automated interface. When you add in options for filters and post processing techniques with the growing library of apps, you have an appealing product not just for consumers, but also for professionals looking to shoot quickly and inconspicuously.

Video : Since iPhone 3GS launch the quality of video capture on iPhones has increased dramatically. With the introduction of iPhone 4, Apple pioneered the on phone edit and upload of videos directly to video sharing and social networking websites like Youtube and Facebook. iPhone 4 could capture an impressive 720p. Though there were lot of phones that could capture upto 1080p but what matters is quality of the video. iPhone 4 could capture amazing quality video. Now with iPhone 4S the game changes once again. iPhone 4S supports whopping 1080p with 30 frames per second. To add more to it, you can edit the videos on iPhone 4S again with iMovie. Its amazing, some tablet PCs fail to edit 1080p videos.

You may remember the news about Steve Jobs’ last project not being the iPhone 4S but instead being, possibly, the next iPhone 5. Well it has been confirmed that Steve worked on that project all the way until the day before he died.

During a meeting on the day of the launch for the iPhone 4S between Apple partner and CEO of Softbank Masayoshi Son and Tim Cook, Cook had to excuse himself from the meeting after a phone call. Son stated the following:

He [Tim Cook] said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died.

Regardless of how you feel about Apple products, this should inspire all of us to chase what we love so much. If Steve didn’t care so much about Apple and their customers, he would have taken leave from work weeks, if not months before his departure. And rightfully so! He knew, and so did everyone else, that his time left on this planet was very slim. Jobs knew that he had unfinished business and dedicated his days to influencing the next device from Apple. At this point, we expect it to a newly revamped fifth-generation iPhone but with how tight lipped Apple is about their products, we won’t really know until closer to the release date.

Steve died due to an unfortunate illness, the cause of death however as noted by his death certificate is; respiratory arrest caused by a pancreatic tumor. Today Cupertino Headquarters is holding a special ceremony for Steve. Apple stores outside of Cupertino are also reportedly closing for three hours to participate in the tribute to the man who had so much drive and influence in the technology community. You can visit the Apple site dedicated to Steve here and read individual contributions from around the world from people whom Steve inspired. If you feel like these many people who have already shared their feelings, you can also send in some thoughts of your own.

You can see a scrolling wall of personal thoughts shared by those who cared for Apple almost as much as Jobs himself. Steve was the definition of a role model and Apple is set on keeping his legacy alive.

When Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs passed away on Oct. 5, Apple established an email address where fans could send their thoughts and appreciation: remembersteve@apple.com.

This is what I had sent.

Love you Steve. Waiting for your reply like you used to during your keynotes.

- Kuldeep
Sent from my iPhone

On Wednesday, Apple created a page on its website to put some of those sentiments on display.

The page, headed simply “Remembering Steve.” and hosted at apple.com/stevejobs, features a perpetually scrolling column of messages from fans and Apple lovers around the world. Apple says that “over a million people” have sent messages commemorating Jobs so far, and encourages people to continue sending more in to the email address dedicated to the purpose.

A quick look at some example postings reveals messages from a wide range of users, some who’ve followed the company since its very inception, and some who are recent converts, brand new to Apple. Many of the emails offer condolences to Jobs’ family.

Apple also plans to hold a private memorial service for employees on Wednesday, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PDT during which Apple Stores will be temporarily closed, in celebration of Jobs’ life and achievements, according to a purported internal email.

You can still send a message if you haven’t already, or read through the rest of the world’s farewells.

via GigaOM.com and Apple

Apple is filthy rich. It sold four million phones in three days. It’s worth more than Exxon. It’s got a staggering stockpile of cash, just sitting around. So why does it spend merely 2.2 percent of revenue on cooking concepts?

ZDNet reports Apple’s R&D funding is miles behind competitors like Google and Microsoft, who doled out 14 and 13 percent of their revenues to internal labs, respectively. So why the gap? Apple’s 2.2 percent marks a ten year low. Even with a commanding presence in the smartphone game, and complete dominance among tablets, why wouldn’t Apple spend more on ideas?

There’s more here than it seems. First, Apple’s R&D spending is actually increasing—it’s just that its massive cash-raking is outpacing its research as a portion of the whole.

Second, Apple’s a very different company compared to a Google or Microsoft. It makes a variety of computers, yeah, along with MP3 players, phones, tablets, and requisite software. But that pales compared to Google, which cooks up so many experimental features that it has to kill off the failed ones in droves. Microsoft, to serve its sprawling software wing and vanguard videogame business, has a prominent and decidedly separate R&D operation—Microsoft Research—which chews through cash like cheesepuffs working on everything from speech technology to quantum computing to funding Jaron Lanier’s latest trippy ideas.

And there’s a cultural difference there. Google has its employees locked into pet projects, yeah, but earmarked a bunch of money for its Labs. Microsoft has Research—experimentation is segmented away from the rest of the show. But Apple’s engineers function as a sort of dispersed R&D lab, beyond whatever dedicated operation they run.

Still, it makes me wonder: if they can accomplish this much with so little, what if they were to spend Microsoft money on wild new things?

A line began to form at the Apple Store here on the eve of the iPhone 4S release, as is often the case around the world during the company’s product launches.

At the front of this particular line Thursday, Steve Wozniak sits in a Pico armchair, sipping Diet Dr Pepper and scanning e-mails from his white iPad.

The Apple co-founder, who gets a pay check of “a couple hundred dollars every two weeks” and still maintains his status as employee No. 1 in company records, hasn’t been able to stay put for long. Crowds of Apple fans, family friends and people who have seen him riding his Segway around the neighbourhood stop to say hi, take pictures and ask for his autograph.

“I’ll be taking a thousand pictures,” Wozniak whispered with a smile. “I’m going to sit down and see if I can get a little e-mail done, because there’s no way I’m going to get it all done today.”

Seconds later, an enthusiastic man in a yellow polo shirt positioned his two kids near the computer legend and pleaded for him to pose. Wozniak immediately sprang to his feet with a grin on his face.

People brought iPhones, iPods and iPads for Wozniak to sign with a marker. “Now your phone is not going to be worth as much when you sell it,” Wozniak said to one woman before signing her iPhone 4.

Fans gave Wozniak their condolences over the late Steve Jobs, the Apple co-founder who died last week. Flowers, partially eaten apples and notes were laid in front of Apple Stores around the world, including this one, where the memorial was set just a few feet from Wozniak’s spot in line.

Wozniak explained that sending flowers or onetime celebrations are the kinds of traditions he and Jobs agreed were unnecessary. However, he talked openly about how much he misses his high-school pal, with whom he built a technology empire.

Wozniak acknowledged that he could have easily made one phone call to Apple and gotten the phone he’s waiting in line for, but he didn’t. He has yet to play with an iPhone 4S or its Siri voice-controlled assistant. He has said previously that he does not ask colleagues about products in development because he does not want to ruin the surprise for himself.

Steve Wozniak autographed fans’ Apple products outside the Los Gatos store.

“I want to get mine along with the millions of other fans,” Wozniak said. “I just want to be able to talk to my phone.”

Analysts have expressed disappointment in the iPhone 4S, but Wozniak, who looks forward to every new Apple device, is especially animated when discussing it. Over the past year, he has not been shy about his anticipation for voice-assist technology, like the new 4S tool called Siri.

People who say they have waited in lines behind Wozniak during past Apple releases have written spiteful messages online claiming he had used his celebrity to cut in line just before the stores opened. Wozniak said that he is usually further back in line at these events but that fans in front of him insist that he get his devices first.

On Thursday, there is no dispute about Wozniak’s place in line. His Segway, which he rode from his nearby home, is parked in a corner near the store’s entrance. Wozniak arrived about noon, and he plans to stay overnight in order to get the new iPhone first, he said.

Fifteen minutes after Wozniak arrived, Parth Dhebar, 17, showed up. He first met Wozniak last year in line at a nearby store during the launch of the original iPad. Wozniak and the high school student kept in touch by e-mail and Facebook, and they were third and fourth in line to buy the iPhone 4.

At the iPad launch, Wozniak taught Dhebar how to ride a Segway.

“Mall security was like, ‘You shouldn’t be Segwaying in here,’ but nobody is going to say no to Woz, obviously,” said Dhebar, who develops iPhone applications. “He does it because he wants to, not for publicity reasons.”

Reporters and cameramen were among the people approaching Wozniak on Thursday. By 7 p.m. Pacific, about a dozen people had set up chairs behind Wozniak, and his wife, Janet Hill, joined. Wozniak said he had already ordered two iPhones to be delivered to his home; he’s in line to buy one for his wife.

Before then, a policeman asked Wozniak quietly whether he would need anything and whether the celebrity planned to stay all night. Wozniak said that he was but that he might take a jog around the block at 3 a.m.

“The line is doing nicely,” Wozniak said after surveying the area.

Fans gathered around Steve Wozniak to chat briefly with the computer legend.

Some in the queue came out solely because Wozniak was here, which they learned from updates on his Twitter and Foursquare profiles. Joe Hewitt, a prominent Silicon Valley software developer, also tweeted this afternoon when he spotted Wozniak in line.

Mohamad Jawad, a graduate student at Santa Clara University, took the bus after seeing Wozniak’s tweet. David Gandy, a furniture designer who is looking to change jobs, said he came to soak up some inspiration from Wozniak.

“I came out here just so I can hang out with Woz for 18 hours,” said Gandy, who lives in the nearby city of Campbell. “I’ve been watching him get harassed all day.”

Wozniak designed the original Apple computers, his major triumph, but he is recognized by many people nowadays for his short-lived appearance in 2009 on the ABC show “Dancing with the Stars.”

“You were awesome on ‘Dancing with the Stars!’ ” said one fan, who had her picture taken with Wozniak. “So good! I voted for you.”

Wozniak quipped, “It’s the one show I like on TV.” He doesn’t watch television, he adds. He spends a great deal of time responding to fan mail.

The initial reaction to the announcement of the iPhone 4S was muted somehow. First there’s that name: It’s the old phone’s name with an S attached to it. As the iPhone 3GS taught us, adding an S to an iPhone’s name can represent numerous under-the-hood improvements, but it doesn’t send shivers down your spine like incrementing a number by one and unveiling a redesigned exterior with mind-blowing features that may or may not include anti-gravity.

Now here comes the iPhone 4S, which is more of a good thing: It takes the successful look of the iPhone 4 and tosses in a dual-core processor for dramatically improved speed, an upgraded camera, and some brand-new voice-command technologies in the form of Siri which is getting acclaimed response from the reviewers across the world.

The first reviews are out for the iPhone 4S and they’re a lot like we expected, which is to say, exactly what we expected: the same phone on the outside but much better on the inside. It’s faster, has a much better camera and packs a golden bullet with Siri.

TechCrunch

First of all, the iPhone 4S blows away the iPhone 4 when it comes to speed. For the past week, I’ve been testing all of my most-used apps and the differences range from solid to awesome. At first glance, the speed difference may seem subtle. But over time, it adds up and becomes apparent. I would switch back to my iPhone 4 and get frustrated by the lag.

Apps that used to take a longer time to perform a task – applying a filter in Camera+, for example – now work much faster. More generally, every app seems to load quite a bit faster. The best way to see this is to load the Settings app that is built into iOS. On the iPhone 4, it can take up to 3 seconds to load. On the iPhone 4S, it loads in less than a second. And the 4S is faster at switching between apps when multi-tasking.

This Is My Next

The iPhone 4S took some of the nicest, cleanest photos I’ve ever seen from a mobile device. If you’ve ever thought about using a phone as a replacement for your point and shoot, feel free to start taking that concept seriously. The 4S produced crisp, balanced, colorful photos that were surprisingly low-noise and never over-saturated. The iPhone 4 sometimes seemed to be compensating for its limitations by exaggerating colors, but the iPhone 4S looks and feels like a real camera capturing true images.

Slash Gear

There are two noticeable improvements [in the camera]—quality and speed—and the best thing is that they’re clearly evident from the start. Sharpness and detail are significantly boosted in the iPhone 4S when compared to what the iPhone 4 can achieve; there’s less noise and less color bleed evident. Aberrations such as fringing around the edges of the frame are cut right back, a benefit of that five-lens array.

In brightly lit environments there’s less over-exposure; in darker scenes the iPhone 4S is less prone to crunchiness in shadow areas. We’ve been able to shoot low-light images without resorting to the single LED flash, and still make out detail thanks to the boosted sensitivity.

Bloomberg

The 4S isn’t a “4G” device, but my tests showed it to be as fast or faster on AT&T’s network as phones being sold as “4G.” (Verizon and Sprint users won’t see that kind of performance, owing to those carriers’ slower 3G networks.)
Using Ookla’s Speedtest app, I compared the 4S with Samsung Electronics Co.’s new Galaxy S II, which AT&T labels as 4G. In dozens of tests in and around San Francisco, the iPhone 4S registered faster download speeds more than two-thirds of the time.

Macworld

In all my tests, the old iPhone 4 “death grip” had no impact on the speed of cellular downloads on the iPhone 4S, nor did a reverse grip at the top of the phone. Only when I took both hands and performed a “death grip” that covered the entire phone (or at least touched all four corners of the phone simultaneously) did I see any signal attenuation… Still, I am happy to report that it seems that Apple has eradicated this problem entirely. If you shied away from the iPhone 4 because of attenuation issues, it’s safe to go back in the water.

Wired

To give you an idea of how convenient Siri is, it takes about three seconds to create a reminder with a voice command, as opposed to the 10 seconds it takes me to manually type an event into a to-do list or calendar entry. Before, with the standard iPhone calendar, I would often forget to add an event because I was too busy to type it, and as a result I would forget I had something scheduled altogether. With Siri and Apple’s new Reminders to-do list app, it’s unlikely I’ll forget anything important again because the process is so effortless.

It’s kind of like having the unpaid intern of my dreams at my beck and call, organizing my life for me. I think Siri on the iPhone is a life changer, and this is only the beginning.

All Things D

In my tests [with Siri], I was able to dictate emails and text messages, even in the car over Bluetooth, without looking at the screen. Accuracy wasn’t perfect-about 20% of the time I had to try twice to get all the words correct. But, in most cases, Siri didn’t make more errors than I do typing on a virtual keyboard.

Siri can read incoming text messages and let you reply via voice. If the message is about a date, Siri will even consult your calendar and tell you if you’re busy at that time, and then remember to return to the message reply.

The system understands multiple, colloquial forms of a question. I asked, “Will the weather get worse today?” and Siri answered, “I don’t think the weather is going to get worse” and displayed a weather chart.

NY Times

It’s mind-blowing how inexact your utterances can be. Siri understands everything from, “What’s the weather going to be like in Tucson this weekend?” to “Will I need an umbrella tonight?” (She has various amusing responses for “What is the meaning of life?”)

It’s even more amazing how Siri’s responses can actually form a conversation. Once, I tried saying, “Make an appointment with Patrick for Thursday at 3.” Siri responded, “Note that you already have an all-day appointment about ‘Boston Trip’ for this Thursday. Shall I schedule this anyway?” Unbelievable.

Stephen Fry for The Guardian

Siri, the high quality and ultra-fast camera, 30 fps 1080p HD video, globally available voice recognition and the introduction of two antennae (the phone seamlessly switches between whichever is getting the strongest signal) are features that make the 4S irresistible; what is more, the unchanged form means that a whole new range of covers and accessories won’t be required.

I don’t know but I had this feeling ever since I came to know about Steve’s death, that he would have done something special at his death bed as well. And it looks like he did. No person in this world would want to be in a situation where Steve was. Near to your family and friends and you know that you are not there for long time. Telling them everthing that you never told them ever in the last days, when days pass by like the day did not have 24 hours. I miss you Steve. Thank you for everything. You’ll be my greatest idol ever.

Over the last few months, a steady stream of visitors to Palo Alto, Calif., called an old friend’s home number and asked if he was well enough to entertain visitors, perhaps for the last time.

In February, Steven P. Jobs had learned that, after years of fighting cancer, his time was becoming shorter. He quietly told a few acquaintances, and they, in turn, whispered to others. And so a pilgrimage began.

The calls trickled in at first. Just a few, then dozens, and in recent weeks, a nearly endless stream of people who wanted a few moments to say goodbye, according to people close to Mr. Jobs. Most were intercepted by his wife, Laurene. She would apologetically explain that he was too tired to receive many visitors. In his final weeks, he became so weak that it was hard for him to walk up the stairs of his own home anymore, she confided to one caller.

Some asked if they might try again tomorrow.

Sorry, she replied. He had only so much energy for farewells. The man who valued his privacy almost as much as his ability to leave his mark on the world had decided whom he most needed to see before he left.

Mr. Jobs spent his final weeks — as he had spent most of his life — in tight control of his choices. He invited a close friend, the physician Dean Ornish, a preventive health advocate, to join him for sushi at one of his favorite restaurants, Jin Sho in Palo Alto. He said goodbye to longtime colleagues including the venture capitalist John Doerr, the Apple board member Bill Campbell and the Disney chief executive Robert A. Iger. He offered Apple’s executives advice on unveiling the iPhone 4S, which occurred on Tuesday. He spoke to his biographer, Walter Isaacson. He started a new drug regime, and told some friends that there was reason for hope.

But, mostly, he spent time with his wife and children — who will now oversee a fortune of at least $6.5 billion, and, in addition to their grief, take on responsibility for tending to the legacy of someone who was as much a symbol as a man.

“Steve made choices,” Dr. Ornish said. “I once asked him if he was glad that he had kids, and he said, ‘It’s 10,000 times better than anything I’ve ever done.’ ”

“But for Steve, it was all about living life on his own terms and not wasting a moment with things he didn’t think were important. He was aware that his time on earth was limited. He wanted control of what he did with the choices that were left.”

In his final months, Mr. Jobs’s home — a large and comfortable but relatively modest brick house in a residential neighborhood — was surrounded by security guards. His driveway’s gate was flanked by two black S.U.V.’s.

On Thursday, as online eulogies multiplied and the walls of Apple stores in Taiwan, New York, Shanghai and Frankfurt were papered with hand-drawn cards, the S.U.V.’s were removed and the sidewalk at his home became a garland of bouquets, candles and a pile of apples, each with one bite carefully removed.

“Everyone always wanted a piece of Steve,” said one acquaintance who, in Mr. Jobs’s final weeks, was rebuffed when he sought an opportunity to say goodbye. “He created all these layers to protect himself from the fan boys and other peoples’ expectations and the distractions that have destroyed so many other companies.

“But once you’re gone, you belong to the world.”

Mr. Jobs’s biographer, Mr. Isaacson, whose book will be published in two weeks, asked him why so private a man had consented to the questions of someone writing a book. “I wanted my kids to know me,” Mr. Jobs replied, Mr. Isaacson wrote Thursday in an essay on Time.com. “I wasn’t always there for them, and I wanted them to know why and to understand what I did.”

Because of that privacy, little is known yet of what Mr. Jobs’s heirs will do with his wealth. Unlike many prominent business people, he has never disclosed plans to give large amounts to charity. His shares in Disney, which Mr. Jobs acquired when the entertainment company purchased his animated film company, Pixar, are worth about $4.4 billion. That is double the $2.1 billion value of his shares in Apple, perhaps surprising given that he is best known for the computer company he founded.

Mr. Jobs’s emphasis on secrecy, say acquaintances, led him to shy away from large public donations. At one point, Mr. Jobs was asked by the Microsoft founder Bill Gates to give a majority of his wealth to philanthropy alongside a number of prominent executives like Mr. Gates and Warren E. Buffett. But Mr. Jobs declined, according to a person with direct knowledge of Mr. Jobs’s decision.

Now that Mr. Jobs is gone, many people expect that attention will focus on his wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, who has largely avoided the spotlight, but is expected to oversee Mr. Jobs’s fortune. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Mrs. Powell Jobs worked in investment banking before founding a natural foods company. She then founded College Track, a program that pairs disadvantaged students with mentors who help them earn college degrees. That has led to some speculation in the philanthropic community that any large charitable contributions might go to education, though no one outside Mr. Jobs’s inner circle is thought to know of the plans.

Mr. Jobs himself never got a college degree. Despite leaving Reed College after six months, he was asked to give the 2005 commencement speech at Stanford.

In that address, delivered after Mr. Jobs was told he had cancer but before it was clear that it would ultimately claim his life, Mr. Jobs told his audience that “death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent.”

The benefit of death, he said, is you know not to waste life living someone else’s choices.

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”

In his final months, Mr. Jobs became even more dedicated to such sentiments. “Steve’s concerns these last few weeks were for people who depended on him: the people who worked for him at Apple and his four children and his wife,” said Mona Simpson, Mr. Jobs’s sister. “His tone was tenderly apologetic at the end. He felt terrible that he would have to leave us.”

As news of the seriousness of his illness became more widely known, Mr. Jobs was asked to attend farewell dinners and to accept various awards.

He turned down the offers. On the days that he was well enough to go to Apple’s offices, all he wanted afterward was to return home and have dinner with his family. When one acquaintance became too insistent on trying to send a gift to thank Mr. Jobs for his friendship, he was asked to stop calling. Mr. Jobs had other things to do before time ran out.

“He was very human,” Dr. Ornish said. “He was so much more of a real person than most people know. That’s what made him so great.”

I was sitting on an uncomfortable wooden stool in an Apple Store, holding my iPhone. My butt was hurting.

I had gone all the way up to the Upper West Side Apple Store to get my dented, scratched, stained three-year-old MacBook Pro—one of the unibodies where you can still swap the battery—fixed for like the 6th or 7th time. The logic board was dying, again. The optical drive was dead, again. I think the display was going bad too. And the trackpad was getting wonky. I had a few days left on Apple Care.

The Genius scrunched up his face as he looked at my MacBook’s history. I was afraid he was going to tell me they couldn’t do anything for it this time, that I was screwed and it’d cost me hundreds of dollars to fix my computer, in the gentle, nurturing tones that Geniuses use when they tell people they need to spend another large sum of money on their Apple products. The head Genius, or whatever they call those guys, walked over. My Genius pointed at the screen. They murmured, and both of their faces contorted, together. Fuck. The big genius sighed. Fu*k. Then he erupted: “GET THIS MAN A NEW COMPUTER.” F*ck.

So he did. Apple replaced my basically destroyed MacBook Pro with a brand new Core i7 model, for free, days before the warranty was going to expire. No questions asked. I didn’t cry, complain or scream. They just did it. Days before I’d have inevitably given them another $2000 for a new computer, which they’re now not going to get from me for another year or two.

That’s why I buy Apple products.

I picked up my iPhone and opened Twitter to condense all of that into 140 characters. And then I saw. It’s one of those things that’s literally unbelievable until you have no absolutely choice but to realize the truth.

I let the feeling of having the air sucked out of my gut wash over me for 30 seconds, numb. I told the Genius. I couldn’t not. He didn’t believe it either, until I handed him my phone. I think we were the only two in the room who knew, at least for a little while. The rest of the room, packed to the stone walls, kept buzzing the way Apple Stores always hum. That was the weird part, like being part of a horrible secret you would give anything not to know.

I took my new MacBook and left.

The architecture of that particular Apple Store always made it feel like a slightly religious space. So I guess there’s nowhere I’d have rather been.

I wanted to see/meet you in person once in my life but I think that day would never come now. I was busy playing game today when news of your death was broken to me by my wife. For a moment I could not think about anything at all and I was in shock. New iPhone 4S launch yesterday already missed you. And now, I don’t know what is going to happen to Apple and its product now in your absence.

A lot of things will be remembered about Steve and Apple. An original thinker who helped create the Macintosh, one of the world’s most influential computers, Steve also reinvented the portable music player with the iPod, launched the first successful legal method of selling music online with iTunes and reordered the cellphone market with the iPhone. The introduction of the iPad also jump-started the electronic-tablet market, and it now dominates the field.

A further statement from the company said: “Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.”

I could not afford all Apple products however I had an iPod Nano and currently I have an iPhone. Which no doubt are the industry leader in their own fields.

Gizmodo, one of my favourite tech blog writes: Gizmodo and Steve Jobs had, at best, a tumultuous relationship. Yet no matter how much he may have hated us, we admired him. No, that’s not quite right. We loved him.

Tim Cook seemed very happy yesterday while announcing the launch of the new iPhone 4S yesterday. But he did not know that he would have to send his life’s most difficult note to the Apple employees. Here is the text of the email that Apple CEO Tim Cook sent to staff to announce Jobs’ death:

“Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.
No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honour his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.”

Tim

Here is how New York Times is remembering Steve Jobs by putting up all the patents files by Steve Jobs. Over 300 patents to his name is a great achievement.

Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder and CEO said on Facebook:

“Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.

Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer said ” I want to express my deepest condolences at the passing of Steve Jobs, one of the founders of our industry and a true visionary. My heart goes out to his family, everyone at Apple and everyone who has been touched by his work. ”

Paul Allen the co-founder of Microsoft said ” My condolences to Steve Jobs’ family and friends. We’ve lost a unique tech pioneer and auteur who knew how to make amazingly great products. Steve fought a long battle against tough odds in a very brave way. He kept doing amazing things in the face of all that adversity. As someone who has had his own medical challenges, I couldn’t help but be encouraged by how he persevered. ”

“I am very, very sad to hear the news about Steve. He was a great man with incredible achievements and amazing brilliance. He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me. He was very kind to reach out to me as I became CEO of Google and spend time offering his advice and knowledge even though he was not at all well. My thoughts and Google’s are with his family and the whole Apple family.” this is what Google CEO Larry Page had to say on Steve’s death.

Sergey Brin writes “From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met. On behalf of all of us at Google and more broadly in technology, you will be missed very much. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues at Apple.”

President Barack Obama also shared his feelings on Steve’s death “Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.

By building one of the planet’s most successful companies from his garage, he exemplified the spirit of American ingenuity. By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun. And by turning his talents to storytelling, he has brought joy to millions of children and grownups alike. Steve was fond of saying that he lived every day like it was his last. Because he did, he transformed our lives, redefined entire industries, and achieved one of the rarest feats in human history: he changed the way each of us sees the world.

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented. Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Steve’s wife Laurene, his family, and all those who loved him.”

Finally, I would leave you with the most popular video of Steve Jobs. Dev-Team posted this video on their blog to pay tribute to Steve Jobs. Stay hungry and stay foolish !!

I will miss you Steve. There won’t be any reason now to watch the keynote as soon as its available on apple website. We are all living on borrowed time. Wish you could have extended your line of credit. - Kuldeep
