I totally agree with you kuldeep. Even though I feel that chandrayaan is one of the greatest achievements , the Government is giving too much popularity for a single sector alone rather than trying to do the same kind of development for all the sectors.

You know our country is one of the few which have enough resources for development even after the invasion of foreign forces like Britain. But still we don’t make use of this resources. In fact we are destroying and wasting them more than we are trying to preserve them.

We Indians are crucially missing the factor of uniformity. That’s why even though we have enough resources that we can all share, we are unable to do so.

For instance:

I have seen many people living in cities throwing food away rather than giving it to the poor; which reminded me of something - There is a school near our locality. It wastes food in huge amounts .I think in a day they throw away food which is enough to feed 10 families!!!!!

We also have to keep in mind that we are expecting too much from the Government which is in vain. I don’t think the present Government is going to do much good.

“So I say why pay taxes?”

For instance:

If we have no good road in our locality then why don’t we organize everyone in the locality and tell them to donate money for the development of the road. Then instead of expecting the government to do the job why don’t we just do it.

I’m not suggesting that everyone should blast their earnings on the development; I am suggesting that any way the budget which is allocated to us in large scale is the resultant of the amount obtained from the tax we pay. So why don’t we make our country a better place by doing our duties. By doing so we are also being a role model for the future generation by showing them how to be loyal to the country.

We keep our home clean .So why can’t we do the same about our surroundings and the same about our country?

We respect other nations and follow the rules and regulations when we visit them while simply showing no regard for our nation’s rules.

The basic answer to make an individual think of all the above realization can only be accomplished through proper education, which allows them to make the right decisions in making our country a better place to live.

There is a famous quote by Machado, Luis AlbertI:

“The level of the development of a country is determined, in considerable part, by the level of development of its people's intelligence. “

Thanks for commenting Nandan, I think you definitely spent some time reading the post and comments. I would emphasize again on what I want to say. I don't care if Government spends money on Chandrayaan or not. All I want is that there are far more pressing things to work on other than Chandrayaan. If we had enough money like US, UK then its fine. Let me give you some more perspective here.

1.We rank 112th in 162 listed countries in terms of per capita income.
2. We are housing 40% of uneducated people of the world in India.

So I think we should first get our basics right. US and UK are in a position to spend millions on these research because they are developed, people are educated, infrastructure is world class. And they did not reach here by sending people on moon. But by spending money on infrastructure, education and other basic needs. As an Indian Government we should first provide employment, shelter and food then think about Chandrayaan.

There would be only 10 people praising the Chandrayaan success but believe me there are millions who say bad things about our corruption, poverty and uneducated people..

I feel bad about it. I don't know about others.

Hey all ,

I was very much interested by this topic. Before I comment any thing about this topic I have to be honest I am a 3rd year Engineering student (Information Technology) and my passion is to become a scientist in ISRO.

Correct me if i am wrong and no offense to anybody, most of the reply to the post contained valuable points but let me add some information that might be helpful for figuring this out.

Comments to others points
---------------------------------------

First of all I feel that government has allocated budget for each field .Sure the money allocated for research in ISRO could be used for reducing poverty. But we cannot blame ISRO for it. The government decides the allocation of money and has allocated for every field.

ISRO is one of the organizations that strengthen our nation’s name among others. Its contributions are notable even how small or large it is.

Here if we take the case of “chandrayaan” project, it proved the existence of water in the moon. Surely it is one of the remarkable contributions to Science.

Someone said ISRO missions are a flop and we are wasting money. In Science you should know a general fact that not all things gives us result as we expect when it made or used for the first time. There will always be flaws or loopholes to point out that our work is not “perfect” so that we could try to correct them.

Let me explain this with an example:

We are all familiar with Thomas Alva Edison .Once ‘Nikon Tesla’ an assistant of Edison quoted that Edison has failed many times during the discovery of the Electric bulb. But Edison replied back to him that "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward”. So this is the proof to the fact that ISRO can only improve and not fail every time.

Troubleshooting
-----------------------

I think all these arguments about the wastage of money come from the fact India has no proper system for meeting the needs in each sector. That is we are not carefully organizing our inputs to get proper outputs.

Indian government should allocate the money as required for each sector. And most importantly they should ensure that the money is reaching to proper hands. If they can do these two points then there is no conflict whether or not money is wasted by ISRO by doing their job.
We need growth in every sector not in just one. For example just consider the argument which stated that ISRO is wasting time doing junk projects and could use the money used by the organization, for putting an end to poverty.

I’m not suggesting that technology is more important than humanity towards fellow beings .I’m also from a poor family. So I understand the pain of poverty. But that doesn’t give me the right to say that our country’s growth can only achieved by overcoming poverty. A country also needs scientific advancement in order for financial and social growth of the country.
In simple words government should divide the budget into such a way that no sectors one should interfere with one another that they have received less than what they should have.
Some are arguing that we need more money for development .No one says how we can meet our needs by using our current budget.

We currently have enough money for overcoming poverty. But the money is not reaching the people that are the main problem which should be the focus point of our discussion.
But instead if we are arguing “whether ISRO should give up chandrayaan 2?” then this discussion becomes irrelevant because if the money is not reaching the people then it doesn’t matter how much is allocated to them. Even if the whole budget is allocated for poor people, then also none will the people.

Solution (From my view point)
------------------------------------------

We should think about utilizing the budget we are allocated and by ensuring that each coin should reach its proper owner (us).

If you have doubts or questions or disagreement with my arguments then please I would really like to hear from you.

With Regards

ISRO's work is totally a waste because you
get hundreds of TV channels at your TV at Home,
You can make a trunk call from even from the most distant

Hourly pictures of clouds and weather data from around
the country, Spread education to the needy in 20,000 schools

Provide vital information about the borders for our security people,
and also launch a low cost mission to the moon to study about the
