India Do no Call Numbers (DND Directory)

There was a time when email spam was so popular and seemed never ending. But now after a lot of efforts and inventions at least we have been able to minimize the spam mails if not able to stop them.

Anyways lets get to the real topic of discussion. I have been receiving spam messages where the senders number is not visible, just a text instead of number. This is due to the mass messaging services provided by various companies now. In fact, I also received a message which was about this service. The message was about an offer to purchase 10,000 messages for 1000 Rs that I can send to any mobile in India and that too anonymously. I am a NDNC (National Do Not Call) subscriber but still I am receiving these kind of messages. Yes I checked it. Thank God there is a national database to check your registration and the shocking part was that it worked. Check yours here. I have complaint about it numerous times to my carrier (Reliance) but never got a solution. And the funny part is that even reliance used to send me those promotional messages and when I asked them to stop sending those promotional messages they said it would take 45 days to get it done. What crap !

These messages usually come from a caller ID with TM prefix for example TM-Shapers, TM-Properties, TM-Jobs etc. There is not number to dial back. Earlier you could call them and ask them to remove your number from their list.

NDND in India is not National Do Not Call. Its Night Day Need Call. Because you are never over with promotional calls or messages. I wish Indian Government could do something about it.

Now I am really sick and tired of deleting these messages everyday. I receive around 20 odd messages everyday asking me to buy a property or offer me some job.

Its really maddening and I want it to stop. Not sure where to complain about it. I think a good place to start with is file a petition and increase awareness.

I have been an average follower of Telecommunication Industry and feel that Indian Telecommunication market is the most vibrant and versatile market. However there are some things we really need to work upon. Things take ages in India to get working. NDNC was introduced, I don’t know may be 3-4 years back but still we consumers have not been able to actually benefit from the service. Likewise 3G services took ages to get launched and I believe the same thing is going to happen with Mobile Number Portability. MNP was suppose to be launched this year somewhere in the second quarter but I haven’t heard anything except the TRAI announcement on the topic. I’ve heard the deadline to implement the MNP is 30th June. Lets see, D-Day is not far away.

Do let me know your thoughts on this via comments..

Update : Read this little nice information about registering your mobile phone number for DND services.
