Windows 7 Super Fast Forward problem – Now this is making me mad

Its third time in a row that it happened. My desktop has started acting weird again. The same old Fast Forwarding issue. OK, let me explain the problem to you in detail. Actually what happens is as soon as I boot up my PC, Every thing will start working super fast. As if the time is running 50 times faster on Windows. Apart from the boot sequence (that black screen with some scrolling white text on it :P ) everything is blazing fast.

Now I would not have mind the problem, if it was not effecting my Keyboard and mouse movements. 1 keystroke on keyboard will give 50 odd impressions. System Clock will run as if I am watching a movie in fast forward mode. Here is a video for your reference that I captured, after the break.

Now things that I have tried, so that you don’t think I did not even do anything.

  1. Tried reinstalling windows but even in the setup environment it was giving the same problem. (This is the most amazing part and the urge to solve this problem without formatting inspired me to post this article.)
  2. Tried changing keyboard and mouse, the same problem.
  3. AFAIK, no issues with hardware at all because if I format the C drive it would all work perfectly fine.
  4. Its not a virus problem. I cleaned up the system and scanned all my hard drives.
  5. Reinstalled the graphics drivers. I use on board ATI HD3200.

There seems to be multiple discussions around it. I am not the only one having this problem. The trend that I have seen or observed is that most of the people who had this problem used ASUS Motherboard. And I am also using ASUS MA3A78-EM with Phenom 9850 BE.

I feel privileged whenever I face any problem because then I can work on it :D and try and solve it. And you won’t have an idea how I feel when I solve the problem and tell about it to the world. So I am going to work on this problem and come up to a conclusion, whether its hardware or software.

Update : Solutions which I have tried and worked so far.

Works – Power Recycle : I tried power recycling the PC completely and the windows booted up fine and was running properly with no fast forward.

Steps to Perform Power recycle :

  1. Unplug power cable from the back of the PC.
  2. Press and hold power button on PC for 10-15 seconds. Doing this will discharge any power surge in the motherboard/circuit.
  3. Plug the power cable again and start up the PC.

Ya power recycle resolved my issue but it keeps kicking back. People using ASUS motherboards have reported the same issues. I think its got something to do with the motherboard. :( I need to get my motherboard RMA’ed.
